The Garage Sale Brady Collection
This is one of my all time favorites. Before opening the store, back when I was just selling cards here and there. I swung by a Facebook Marketplace ad on my way to work one morning. The lady showed me four boxes of cards that were deceased husband’s and mentioned that they had been out all weekend at a garage sale, and no one had even gone through them. I was in a hurry to get to work, so I asked how much she was wanting. She stated $80, so I gladly paid her and loaded everything up.
Later that evening I started processing the boxes. Nothing too crazy, but one box in particular caught my eye “2000 football.” I flipped through and sure enough, I stumbled upon a complete set of 2000 Bowman Football, with the Tom Brady rookie. I ended up sending the card to PSA for grading where it received a PSA 9. I sold the card and ended up with quite a bit more than $80. I went back to my Facebook messages and tried to locate the individual who sold me the cards. I sent a message and asked if I could stop by the next day on my way to work. That morning, I walked up and handed the lady an envelope full of cash. Explaining the situation with the Brady card and how I wanted to share some of the profit. She was floored, and could not wrap her head around the idea that those old cards collecting dust could have been worth more than a few dollars.
